A Doraville police detective was killed in DeKalb County car accident on November 14, 2011. The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Interstate 20 westbound, near Wesley Chapel Road.
Detective Robert Shane Wilson was headed westbound in an unmarked SUV when he was hit head-on by a Jeep, driven by Gene Jones, of Dunwoody. Detective Wilson died in the accident. He was 27-years-old.
Mr. Jones was charged with first degree vehicular homicide and driving under the influence. These are not the first charges against Mr. Jones. In 2005, Jones was charged with driving under the influence and violating the open container law. He pleaded guilty to those charges. He was also charged in at least two other incidents, once for drunk driving and once for cruelty to children.
Detective Wilson had worked in Doraville law enforcement since the age of 19 when he started as a dispatcher. He was promoted to detective in September 2011. The Chief of Police says that Detective Wilson was traveling from his home to the scene of an alleged home invasion when this fatal crash occurred.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, six-year-old son and other family members. Our Atlanta car accident lawyers express our sincerest condolences to the entire family during this difficult time.
