A Clarke County car crash took the life of two people shortly after noon on Monday, October 10, 2011. The accident occurred on Commerce Road near Bob Holman Road. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department investigated the accident and has reported that a Ford Focus driven by 48-year-old Angela Ellington, of Maysville, hydroplaned as it came around a curve in the road.
When the car allegedly hydroplaned it crossed from the southbound to the northbound lane of Commerce Road and collided with 2008 Dodge Dakota driven by 19-year-old Haley Dodd, of Commerce.
Ms. Ellington and 57-year-old Priscilla Mathis of Commerce, her front seat passenger, died at the scene of the accident. A back seat passenger in Ms. Ellington's car, who has been identified as 26-year-old Sandra Baggett, of Columbus, was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment. Ms. Dodd was also taken to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries are not reported to be life threatening.
We extend our condolences to the families and friends of Angela Ellington and Priscilla Mathis, and we extend our best wishes for full and fast recoveries to Haley Dodd and Sandra Baggett following this two-vehicle Georgia car accident.
