47 Mill Creek High School students were on their way home from a chorus trip on Sunday April 10, 2011 when an accident occurred. The crash happened on I-75 in Dooly County around 4 p.m.
According to officials, a car crashed into another vehicle in the left lane of I-75 north, and the collision forced those vehicles into the path of the bus. The bus driver acted quickly to avoid hitting the vehicles and as he swerved the bus, it ended up skidding off of the highway, up an embankment and into an overpass.
20 students were taken to the hospital with injuries. One of those students needed to be airlifted to an area hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The other students were taken to the Dooley County Sherriff's Office where another bus was sent to take them home.
The students who were on board the bus at the time of the crash report being advised to stay very still so that the bus didn't tip over and create further injuries.
We extend our best wishes for a full and complete recovery to everyone involved in this Georgia accident.
