A tragic Cobb County car accident took the life of one Harrison High School teenager and seriously injured her friend on Friday January 14, 2011.  Police report that 17-year-old Alexandra Covett was driving on Stilesboro Road in Marietta when she lost control of her vehicle on an icy patch of road.  Ms. Covett was seriously injured in the accident and her passenger and friend, 17-year-old Karli Jobling was killed.

Investigators report that Ms. Covett lost control of her car and crossed the center median where she collided with another vehicle.  Ms. Covett was taken to the Atlanta Medical Center in serious condition but with non life threatening injuries.  Ms. Jobling was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Authorities have indicated that charges are pending against Ms. Covett following the completion of the investigation.  Ms. Jobling’s mother, however, is requesting that police not pursue charges against Ms. Covett.  Instead, she believes the focus should be on Cobb County and why the roads were not clear of ice days after the storm left the greater Atlanta area.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Karli Jobling, and we extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Alexandra Covett following this Georgia car crash.
