From Wednesday, November 23, 2011 – Sunday, November 27, 2011, 15 people died on Georgia roads, 247 people were injured and 434 crashes were reported. Thirteen people lost their lives in fatal Georgia Thanksgiving weekend car accidents last year.

This year, fatal Georgia car accidents were reported in the following locations during the holiday weekend:

  • Gwinnett County
  • Cartersville
  • Columbus
  • Blue Ridge
  • Forsyth
  • Richmond County
  • Toccoa
  • Villa Rica

A child was among this year’s fatalities. The Georgia State Patrol reports that 10-year-old Michael Jaimes was in a van with his family on Saturday, November 26 when their vehicle was hit by a motorcycle on Ga. 61. This Bartow County crash took Michael’s life and the life of the 27-year-old motorcyclist. Two of Michael’s relatives, ages 5 and 13, were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening car accident injuries. The driver of the van was not hurt in the crash.

We extend our condolences to Michael’s family and friends and to the family and friends of the other 14 people who lost their lives over the holiday weekend.
