On Friday, September 17, 2010 a 39-year-old off duty DeKalb County police officer was escorting a funeral procession in Snellville, Georgia.  The officer was riding a motorcycle and working to stop traffic for the procession from the Tim Stewart Funeral Home when a woman pulled her SUV out of a bank parking lot and crashed into the officer.

The accident happened near the intersection of East Main Street and Wisteria Drive.  Witnesses report that the officer’s motorcycle had its lights and sirens on at the time of the collision, but that the car left the parking lot anyway.  The name of the woman who was driving the SUV has not yet been released.

The injured officer has been identified as Ekrem Zejnelovic.  Officials report that the officer was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.  His injuries are described as facial lacerations and other lacerations and bruises throughout his body.  His facial injuries may require surgery.

The funeral home has not commented on this serious Dekalb County motorcycle accident, and the accident remains under investigation by the Snellville Police Department.

We extend our best wishes for a quick and complete recovery to Officer Zejnelovic.
