On Tuesday, October 19, 2010 an eight-year-old boy was waiting for his school bus in front of his home on Mesena Road in Thomson.  Shortly after 7 a.m., the child was hit by a pickup truck when he stepped out of his driveway to board his bus.

The child has been identified as Cassius Walker, a third grader at Thompson Elementary School.  He was taken to the trauma unit at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta following the accident.

The school bus driver has been identified as Jessie Lee Ivery who has been a school bus driver with the McDuffie County Board of Education for 34 years.  The pickup truck driver has been identified as 50 year old Wayman Brown of Thomson.

The crash was responded to by the Georgia State Patrol and the investigation is now being conducted by the Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Reconstructive Crash Team.

There were 35 children on the bus at the time of this Georgia school bus accident.  Those children were not injured, but were taken to school to meet with counselors and then released to their parents.

We extend our best wishes to Cassius Walker for a quick and complete recovery following this McDuffie County pedestrian accident.
