A tragic accident involving two teenage drivers and two teenage pedestrians left one person dead on Saturday April 9, 2011. The crash occurred at the intersection of Bankhead Highway and Somerset Place in Carrollton.

According to media reports, 18-year-old Rhyann Pilgrim and an unidentified 16-year-old were standing at a crosswalk waiting for the light to change when a pickup truck jumped the curb and hit them. The pickup truck was driven by James Mills. The two teenage pedestrians were pinned underneath the truck. Rhyann died at the scene of the accident and the other teenager was flown by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center. Rhyann was a student at Carrollton High School.

Police say that the truck that hit them swerved to avoid a Jeep that was trying to turn and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. According to police, the 18-year-old driver of the Jeep is likely to be charged after consultation with the Carroll County District Attorney's Office. Police do not expect charges to be filed against Mr. Mills, the driver of the truck.

We extend our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and classmates of Rhyann Pilgrim following this fatal Carrolton crash, and we extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to those who were hurt in this accident.
