Government Releases New Drunk Driving Statistics

Last month, the United States Government released new drunk driving statistics. The statistics are important to understanding the full scope of the problem, and more importantly to preventing future drunk driving deaths.

According to the CDC, there were approximately 112 million incidents of drunk driving during 2010.

Of the roughly 112 million cases of drunk driving during 2010, the CDC estimates that:

Men were responsible for 4 out of 5, or more than 80% of the drinking and driving incidents.
Young men aged 21 - 34, who only make up 11% of the U.S. population, were responsible for almost 33% of all drinking and driving incidents.
About 85% of people who were drinking and driving were also involved in binge drinking, which is defined as 5 drinks for men or 4 drinks for women in a short amount of time.
