Q: Is there a relationship between hearing impairment and the rate of motor vehicle accidents?
In terms of private vehicles, no. Commercial vehicles, however, are another story. Some small correlation has been found between hearing loss in drivers of commercial vehicles and the rate of accidents. This is particularly true if their hearing loss has been comparatively rapid or come late in life, as opposed to those with congenital hearing loss who have learned habits and means of adjusting to compensate for their lack of hearing.
