According to the National Cancer Institute, 219,440 people are estimated to have been diagnosed with lung and bronchus cancers in 2009. The American Cancer Society predicts that nearly 7% of people born today will receive a diagnosis for cancer of the lung and bronchus at some point during their lifetime.
From 2002 to 2006, the median age at the time of diagnosis was 71. Despite that, men and women as young as 20 were diagnosed with lung cancers during that time period.
