Three Dangers of Getting Into a Car Accident While Pregnant

Mothers naturally worry about their children, but perhaps never more so than when their unborn children are put in danger during a car crash.  As experienced Atlanta accident attorneys and parents, we believe that if someone injures an unborn child that they should be held accountable.

Generally, unborn children are injured in car accidents the same way as other accident victims are hurt.  A driver acts negligently and causes a crash.  For example, a driver may drink and drive, text and drive, or fail to stop at a stop sign and hit your car causing you and your child injury.  While your injuries may be readily apparent to you, your child’s injuries will not be so easy to detect.

Therefore, in Georgia, pregnant car accident victims need to be aware of the following dangers to their unborn children:
  • Placental abruption: if the placenta tears away from the uterine wall the baby can lose its blood supply.  This can lead to miscarriage or a permanent disability for the child.
  • Lack of oxygen: if you are unconscious, then the baby may lose its oxygen supply which can also lead to miscarriage or a permanent disability for the child.
  • Miscarriage:  in some cases the baby may not survive a crash.

If your child has suffered any of these injuries, please contact our Atlanta car accident lawyers as soon as possible at 1.770.518.1133 or via our online contact form so that we can help you during this difficult time.
